Question:
I wanted to ask regarding this situation Iam in. My father sells cameras, laptops, mp3 players and other computer accessories. My mother deals in cosmetic products and perfumes. Are both the income haram? If yes then I am 20 years old, currently studying and have 1 and half years left to finish my degree. My second brother is 17. My third brother is 14. And I have a sister who is 12. What are we supposed to do if our parents aren't earning halal? Will we be also answerable for eating haram because at the moment it is not possible for me to work. As you are aware, for getting work today some qualifications are required. Kindly, provide a solution because with every bit of food I eat this question is troubling me. Jazak Allah Khairan
Answer: In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
In principle, it is permissible to sell things that can be used both in permissible and impermissible ways, although it is better to refrain from selling things that are mostly used in impermissible ways. Based on this, it is permissible to sell the things mentioned in the query. Therefore, the income of your parents is halaal.
