Darul Ifta Australia
Darul Ifta Australia (Australian Institute of Islamic Jurisprudence) Inc. is a non-profit organisation that is based in Melbourne, Australia.
The organisation was officially opened on the 3rd of September, 2011 under the instruction and supervision of Mufti Ebrahim Desai sahib (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) of South Africa (of www.askimam.org and www.daruliftaa.net). The opening took place at the residence of Mufti Faizal Riza, the president of the organisation and student of Mufti Ebrahim Desai sahib. Over a dozen Ulama and Muftis attended the gathering for the opening.
The purposes of Darul Ifta Australia are as follows:
1) To provide a reliable fatwa service to the Muslim community related to all aspects of a Muslim's life including: worship (Salat, Zakat, Fasting, Hajj etc), business transactions, marriage, divorce, inheritance, bequests, funerals etc.
2) To offer ifta training (mufti course) for ulama.
3) To offer free publications with the aim of educating the Muslim community.
4) To promote Islamic educational programmes for the benefit of the Muslims.
Darul Ifta Australia is registered with Consumer Affairs Victoria as a not for profit organisation.

Darul Ifta Australia specialises in the Hanafi school of Fiqh (madhab) and provides fatwas based on the same school.

Mufti Faizal Riza
Mufti Faizal Riza, the head and founder of Darul Ifta Australia, was born in Fiji and was raised up in Australia. He is a qualified Shaikh (Alim) and Mufti. He studied Islamic sciences such as Arabic, Fiqh, Hadith, Tafseer and Usul in various traditional institutes in the Indo-Pak subcontinent, such as Nadwatul Ulama, Lucknow, India; Darul Ulum Deoband, UP, India; and Jamia Binoria, Karachi, Pakistan. He attained his MA in Islamic Sciences and Arabic from Wafaqul Madaris Al-Arabiya, Pakistan.
Mufti Faizal Riza studied the takhassus fil fiqh wal iftaa (specialisation in Islamic Jurispurdence and issuing fatwas) course under the tutorship of Mufti Ebrahim Desai sahib of South Africa for three years and successfully completed the course in July 2011.
Mufti Faizal Riza has taught Islamic subjects for over 18 years in Darul Ulum College of Victoria (Fawkner) and other institutes. The subjects he has taught include Arabic Grammar (Lisaanul Quran, An-Nahu Al-Waadih), Quran translation, Tafseer, Fiqh (Qudoori, Hidaaya), Usul Fiqh and Hadith (Bukhari, Muslim, Muwatta).
When Mufti Faizal Riza was studying under Hadrat Mufti Ebrahim Desai (Rahmatullahi Alaih), Hadrat Mufti sahib advised and encouraged him to open a Darul Ifta in Australia in order to provide fatwa service to the Muslim community in Australia as well as to offer ifta training for ulama. When Darul Ifta Australia was opened by the grace of Allah SWT, Hadrat Mufti Ebrahim Desai sahib (RA) offered full support in terms of reviewing the fatwas and giving guidance and advice.
After the demise of Hadrat Mufti Ebrahim Desai sahib (Rahmatullahi Alaihi) in July of 2021, Mufti Husain Kadodia sahib (who is also the teacher of Mufti Faizal Riza and taught him Usul al-Ifta and other subjects) as well as others advised Mufti Faizal Riza to continue the services of Darul Ifta Australia with even more zeal and commitment.
