If a girl is considering someone for marriage, and she does istikhara, is it necessary for her to see a dream? For instance, a girl has been doing istikhara for 7 nights (and even more), however, does not see a dream/is completely blank related to the new potential (but feels positive about it due circumstances. i.e. seeing the family and the man coming from a good Deeni background)... is this simply a sign that it is good, and one can proceed with the proposal, or should it be that she needs to feel some kind of feeling from within in the form of a dream or something (positive or negative)?
Basically, how does one know whether it is good or worrisome?
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
When a person does istikhara, he asks Allah Ta'ala to enable him to do that which is good for him and to keep him away from that which is not good for him. Hence, after doing istikhara, whatever the person does, it will be good for him, insha'allah. There is no contradiction between doing istikhara and consulting someone or using one's reasoning. Also, one should not think that he must do whatever his heart feels after doing istikhara; instead, if he finds something else to be superior due to consideration of other factors, he can act upon it.
In short, through istikhara one seeks good (khair) from Allah Ta'ala, not information (khabar). Hence, it is not necessary to see a dream after doing istikhara.
