Question:

I am looking for some casual job and found that one survey firm is hiring people to do survey on shoppers at Coles and Woolworths. The survey is on pork. I'm not yet confirmed what exactly the questions will be but probably on buyers' buying habit. Please tell me if they offer me the job, will it be permissible?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

If the only thing you will have to do is a survey and you will not be involved in buying, selling or advertising of pork, then there is a leeway (گنجائش) in doing this job; and the money attained through it will be halal for you. However, this kind of job is not suitable for a Muslim and should be avoided as much as possible. Thus, if you can find another suitable job, then you should not apply for this job.
