Question: I have read from numerous Islamic sources that say carmine is
haraam to consume; however, I wanted to ask if it is
permissible to use makeup like eyeliners, eye shadows and blushes which you are
not ingesting and are applying to skin and are for external use on the skin. Answer: بِسْمِ

الرَّحِيْم In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most
Merciful. It is not permissible to ingest carmine. However, because
carmine is pure, it is permissible to use it externally, although using
carmine-containing lipstick will not be permissible due to the distinct
possibility of inadvertently ingesting minute quantities of the lipstick. And
