washing clothes in washing machine

Question:

Can impure clothes be washed in a washing machine? If not, will it be okay to wash it three times? Will that purify the clothes?

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

Impure clothes washed in a washing machine will become pure and clean. However, it is strongly advised to ensure that one's washing machine undergoes three cycles of wash/spin. This is to avoid the scholarly difference regarding this issue, i.e. so that one's clothes become pure by consensus of the scholars.
