Question:
Is it permissible for a heart patient to drink a herbal tea (for heart/BP relief) that has alcohol mixture according to the manufacturer?
Answer: In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

It
will be permissible for a heart patient to drink such a herbal tea as medication with
two conditions: 1) the alcohol in it is made from something other than grapes
and dates; 2) the alcohol in it is so little that it cannot cause intoxication.
(Takmila Fath al-Mulhim: 3/608; Ahsanul Fataawa: vol. 8 pg. 488, Saeed) On the other hand, if the alcohol in the tea is made from grapes or dates, it will only be permissible to drink it with the following conditions: 1) there are no halal alternatives 2) the herbal tea in reference is known to be effective in treating the condition 3) a competent, Muslim doctor has prescribed it.
