Question:

In my washing machine, I found a used panty liner. I do not know how long it was in there for. The liner seemed washed; it had no smell or substance; it merely had a light yellow colour. Does it mean that all our clothes are impure and we have to wash them again? Also, I had dried those clothes in our drier. How do I purify the drier? The more I learn about purity and ghusl, the more I feel that I have been doing it all wrong.

Answer:

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

_ In principle, if impure clothes are washed in a washing machine, they become pure (click here for details). If the effect of the impurity – for example the red colour of blood – does not come off the garment after it is washed, the garment will nonetheless become pure.

Based on the above, if there was an impure panty liner in the washing machine along with other clothes, the panty liner and the other clothes will become pure once the machine completes its wash cycle. The yellow colour that remained in the panty liner upon the completion of the wash cycle will not affect the purity of the liner and the clothes.

Hence, there is no need to purify your drier.
