Christmas gift card from work

Question:

Assalam o Alykum Mufti Saheb, Hope you are doing well.

My employer has given Christmas gift cards for shopping as a gift.

Just wondering what to do with these ? Personal use or charity to masjid or any needy muslim ?

Wa Alaikumussalamu Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh

Dear brother,

Accepting a Christmas gift card in order to revere or celebrate Christmas or by way of agreement with their happiness on the occassion is strictly not permissible. However, if one accepts it just as a gift then it is permissible, although abstaining from it is better.

في التاترخانية: وما يأتي به المجوس في نيروزهم من الأطعمة إلى الأكابر والسادات من كانت بينهم وبينهم معرفة ذهاب ومجيء فقد قيل: إن من أخذ ذلك على وجه الموافقة لفرحهم يضر ذلك بدينه، وإن أخذه لا على ذلك الوجه لا بأس به، والاحتراز عنه أولى

Once you have received it, it is permissible to use it for personal use.
