Question: I have heard
some people and also some Alims say that don’t
give away your Qurbani meat to anyone, eat it
yourself. Is it right? Answer: بِسْمِ
اللهِ
الرَّحْمنِ
الرَّحِيْم In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. It is better (mustahab) for one to divide the
meat of Qurbani as follows: 1. Donate
a third of it to the poor and needy. 2. Keep
a third for oneself. 3. Feed
a third of it to one’s relatives and friends. This is shown by the following hadith: عَنْ

شَاءَ) Jabir reported that Allah's Apostle (Sallallaahu
alaihi wa sallam) forbade eating of the flesh of sacrificed
animals beyond three (days) but afterwards said: Eat, make a provision, and
keep it.[1] [2] However, if a person was to give all
of it away without consuming anything or if he was to keep all of it for
himself without giving any away, both these scenarios would be permissible.[3] [4] As for those Alims
you mentioned who encourage one to keep the Qurbani
meat for his own consumption, they may be referring to particular individuals who have large
families and are not so well to do, for them it is better to keep the meat for
their family’s consumption and not give it to others.[5] And
Allah Ta'ala knows best. Sh. Muddasser Dhedhy Checked
