My mum has been fasting all her life. Unfortunely she is quite ill this year and could not fast. Someone has told her that paying the fitrana twice the sum will reward her for the missed fasts. Fitrana in Fiji is $2.50 FJD*. So she pays $5.00 per day, i.e. approx. 30 days fasts x $5.00=$150.00. Is this true?

_ I have missed many fasts in the past (in my college & university life). I was not sure about the actual number I missed. Alhamdulillah, I have made up many of them based on estimation. Many a time, I may have intentionally broken the fast after starting. I am not sure whether I did this before the age of puberty or not. What should be the age of puberty in this case and what should I do?

I have a question with regards to celebrating Eid according to astronomical calculations. Did'nt our beloved Prophet S.A.W enjoin us to celebrate Eid based on sighting of the Moon and that if we don't sight the moon we have to fast an extra day? Many people rely on the calculation of astronomy; and their excuse is that we are in the era of "Technology". I am a bit confused. What is the ruling on this issue? Jazkallah khair
