Question:
Some people say that in the presence of Islamic schools here in Australia, it is haram to put our children in a state school? Is it haram, as the Islamic schools are sometimes not affordable or are a bit far or do not have enough capacity?
I really appreciate the time and effort you put in answering our questions. May Allah give you ahsan ul jaza. Ameen. Answer: In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
If by sending one’s children to a state school, there is fear of them being influenced by or becoming fond of non-Islamic beliefs, practices or lifestyle, it will not be permissible to send them to a state school in such a case. Otherwise, it will be permissible, although it is preferable to send one’s children to a good Islamic school. Home schooling is another viable and good option.
One should keep the eternal life (i.e. the life of the aakhirah) of one’s children in view when choosing a schooling option for them. One must never be negligent towards providing good Islamic education for one’s children as well as a pure and conducive environment for instilling in them the Islamic principles and values. |
