Question: I am a tutor. I was supervising an exam. After
the end of the exam, I found out that a student have forgotten her calculator.
I had to put up a notice on the notice board for the student to come and
collect her calculator. I got busy with work and forgot to put up the notice. I
do not know which student it was and how to return the calculator to that
person. Please advise me what I should do in this situation. I am feeling very
guilty of keeping it and not putting up the notice on time if anyone has lost
their calculator, should come and collect it from me. A new trimester has begun
and I am quite sure that that student may not be around. What do I do with the
calculator? Answer: بِسْمِ

the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Put that
notice up on the board and leave it there for some time. The owner may well
come to the university to look for it. After the notice has been there for a
while and you feel that there is no or little hope of the student coming to
find his/her calculator then give the calculator to a poor person who is
eligible to receive zakat money. And Allah Ta'ala knows best Mufti 13/2/2013 Darul Ifta |
