Question:

Is it permissible for a person to take an oath in his mother's name? May Allah Ta'ala reward you.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

It is haraam (forbidden) to take an oath in the name of other than Allah, including one's mother. If a person does take such an oath, the oath will not be valid. To compensate for the sin, such a person must do istighfaar and tauba (repentance).

في الدر المختار: لا يقسم بغير الله تعالى
وفي حاشية ابن عابدين: أي: لا ينعقد القسم بغيره تعالى أي: غير أسمائه وصفاته ولو بطريق الكناية كما مر ، بل يحرم كما في القهستاني
