Question:


Fazail-E-Sadaqat by Maulana Zakaria RA has many examples of sadaqah on behalf of deceaseds (Esale Sawab). Can we also give Sadaqah on behalf of living families who are sick, disabled, stressed, or going astray ? Intention is to seeks Allah's help.

Yes, it is permissible to do any virtuous act -- such as salat, fasting, sadaqah etc – and to make intention of sending the rewards of the act to another person, whether dead or alive. By doing so, the reward of the virtuous act will be sent to the intended person and the person who carried out the virtuous act will also receive full reward.

 

صرح علماؤنا في باب الحج عن الغير بأن للإنسان أن يجعل ثواب عمله لغيره صلاة أو صوما أو صدقة أو غيرها كذا في الهداية ، بل في زكاة التتارخانية عن المحيط : الأفضل لمن يتصدق نفلا أن ينوي لجميع المؤمنين والمؤمنات لأنها تصل إليهم ولا ينقص من أجره شيء ا هـ هو مذهب أهل السنة والجماعة ... ( وبعد أسطر ) ... وفي البحر : من صام أو صلى أو تصدق وجعل ثوابه لغيره من الأموات والأحياء جاز ، ويصل ثوابها إليهم عند أهل السنة والجماعة كذا في البدائع ، ثم قال : وبهذا علم أنه لا فرق بين أن يكون المجعول له ميتا أو حيا ( رد المحتار: 3/180، دار المعرفة )
