Question: Assalamualaikum, Answer: بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيْم In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Wa Alaikumussalamu Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuh We, as Muslims, do not declare any specific individual to be a dweller of paradise unless the Prophet (sallaaahu alaihi wa sallam) gave that individual the glad tiding of being a dweller of paradise, such as the glad tidings he gave to the ashara mubbashara: Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, Ali, Talha, Zubair, Abdurrahman ibn Auf, Sa’ad ibn Abi Waqqas, Sa’eed ibn Zaid and Abu Ubaidah Ibn al-Jarrah; as well as Fatima, Hasan and Husain – May Allah SWT be pleased with all of them. We declare that the Muslims are the people of paradise and that the disbelievers are the people of hellfire. Whenever we mention the sahabah, we only mention them with good and admiration. We hold them at the highest esteem. We regard their rank as loftier than the rank of the other Muslims. To venerate the sahaba is a religious obligation. The Prophet (sallaaahu alaihi wa sallam) has said, “The best of my nation is my generation (i.e. the sahaba), then those who follow them (i.e. the tabi'een) then those who follow them (i.e. the tab' tabi'een.” (Bukhari) (Sharh Al-Aqaa’id An-Nasafiyya: pg 186-188) He who praises and reveres the glorious sahaba, the pure, chaste wives of the Holy Prophet (sallaaahu alaihi wa sallam) and his progeny is free from nifaq (hypocrisy), i.e. his iman is genuine. (Aqeeda Tahawiya pg. 215) And with Almighty Allah is all success. Mufti Faizal Riza Darul Ifta Australia
