Question: Is eating Prasads of Hindus
permissible? Answer: بِسْمِ
اللهِ
الرَّحْمنِ
الرَّحِيْم In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Eating
food which is offered to idols and is thereafter distributed in the name of the
idols is not permissible. This is due to the following holy verse of the Quran: Translation: "Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead (flesh of animals not slaughtered),
blood, the flesh of swine, and that (food) on which has been invoked the name
of other than Allah ……." (Quran 5:3) Prasad
is defined as: “Anything, usually an edible food, that
is first offered to a deity, saint, Perfect Master or an Avatar and then
distributed in His or Her name to their followers or others as a good sign. The
prasad is then considered to have the deity's
blessing residing within it.” [Wikipedia] Therefore, since Prasad is firstly
offered to then distributed in the name of other than
Allah, it is not permissible for a Muslim to consume it. (See: Ahsanul
Fatawa: 1/52) And Allah Ta'ala knows best Maulana
